Becoming a Teacher
At the GLC we are passionate about teacher training and are able to support the two main training options into teaching – School based training and University led training. We have had great success with both routes, with many colleagues who undertook training with us now working as good or outstanding practitioners within the GLC.
The GLC has run successful school centred initial teacher training programmes over the last 10 years and we are currently in partnership with Teach First, Straight to Teach, Essex and Thurrock teacher training. These options allow training ‘on the job’. Trainees benefit from the expertise and mentoring of colleagues on site. We have had a high pass rate and many trainees have gone on to complete their NQT year with us via Essex Teacher Training.
To become a teacher, you must be a graduate with a degree that covers the subject you wish to teach as well as GCSE Maths and English at a grade C or equivalent. More advice on the options available can be found here.
The GLC also supports universities with PGCE placements in both primary and secondary settings.
