    GLC’s Teatime Concert, our young musicians and staff members wowed parents and carers with performances on a variety of instruments in a relaxed and creative setting. The children demonstrated incredible support for one another throughout the concert, truly embodying The Gateway Learning Community’s core values. The talent on display was simply amazing, making it a memorable and inspiring evening for all involved.

  • The GLC Community Eco Fests

    This half term, all four primary schools came together to celebrate the GLC Eco Community Fests. Pupils made eco-friendly items to sell at the events, showcasing their creativity and commitment to sustainability. Community members and local companies joined in, with companies hosting stalls to share eco-friendly products and ideas. The festivities also featured performances by Bloco, poetry readings, and choir singing. Alongside hands-on activities about recycling and wildlife, the fests provided a wonderful opportunity for everyone to come together, learn, celebrate, and take action for the environment.

  • Beach of Dreams, Wellbeing Walks

    The GLC ‘All Thriving’ Wellbeing Ambassadors—our pupil leadership group—have been actively involved in a meaningful social action project in partnership with local arts organisation Kinetika.

    Kinetika is passionate about bringing communities together through creative walking experiences across Thurrock. Working alongside their team, our pupil leaders have co-designed and led walks at each other’s schools, all inspired by the theme of the Thames Estuary.

    This social action initiative has given pupils the opportunity to express their ideas, celebrate their local environment, and take the lead in engaging their school communities. Thanks to their creativity and leadership, each walk has been unique and memorable.

  • VE Day Celebrations

    Published 23/05/25

    Children from the GLC joined Re-Engage at the Tilbury Cruise Terminal to celebrate VE Day. The children had the opportunity to meet and talk with members of the local community group, Re-Engage. There was also jazz music, a dance teacher teaching swing and jive steps, and historical books from the 1940s, so the children could learn about this historical event.

  • Kinetika's T100 Beach of Dreams Launch

    The Gateway Learning Community were extremely proud to be part of the Kinetika Beach of Dreams launch on Saturday 3rd May. The community walked with the T100 group from Tilbury Civic Square to Tilbury Cruise Terminal to watch an array of performances and take part in the activities.  The GLC choir proudly sang in the performance area with Katina Williams and Tracy Marr.  Well done everyone!

  • World Book Day 2025

    The children had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day, a day all about the joy of reading and focussing on our theme All Different, All Equal. Primary pupils each had a book in focus and took part in fun activities throughout the day in mixed year groups. The Gateway Academy students tackled a challenging neurodiversity crossword. The quiz highlighted different neurodiverse conditions and celebrated literature that promotes inclusion. 

    It was great to see increased attendance across The GLC for World Book day — well done!

  • The Rotary Club of Grays Thurrock, Thurrock Primary School Mathletics Competition

    20 Thurrock primary schools came together on 5 March 2025 for the The Rotary Club of Grays Thurrock, Thurrock Primary School Mathletics Competition hosted by The Gateway Learning Community.

    The competition aimed to promote teamwork, problem-solving skills, and a love for mathematics amongst the pupils. They were encouraged to work together and support each other, showcasing not only their maths abilities but also their teamwork and communication skills.

    After a day of intense competition, the results were announced:

    • 1st place - Little Thurrock Primary School 
    • 2nd place - West Thurrock Academy
    • 3rd place - Shaw Primary Academy 

    They were awarded a trophy for their outstanding performance. All participants received certificates to recognise their hard work during the event.

  • An Inspiring Moment for our Young Bloco Players!

    We were thrilled to see Mercury Prize winners Ezra Collective take home the award for Best Group at the 2025 Brit Awards! Their live performance was even more special as they were joined by 30 young musicians from Kinetika Bloco — an organisation some of the band members were part of as children. This added an extra layer of energy and spectacle to the show.

    What an inspiring moment for our own Bloco players, showing them the incredible possibilities that lie ahead and motivating them to keep practicing and embracing every musical opportunity that comes their way!
