Children from the GLC joined Re-Engage at the Tilbury Cruise Terminal to celebrate VE Day. The children had the opportunity to meet and talk with members of the local community group, Re-Engage. There was also jazz music, a dance teacher teaching swing and jive steps, and historical books from the 1940s, so the children could learn about this historical event.
The Gateway Learning Community were extremely proud to be part of the Kinetika Beach of Dreams launch on Saturday 3rd May. The community walked with the T100 group from Tilbury Civic Square to Tilbury Cruise Terminal to watch an array of performances and take part in the activities. The GLC choir proudly sang in the performance area with Katina Williams and Tracy Marr. Well done everyone!

The children had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day, a day all about the joy of reading and focussing on our theme All Different, All Equal. Primary pupils each had a book in focus and took part in fun activities throughout the day in mixed year groups. The Gateway Academy students tackled a challenging neurodiversity crossword. The quiz highlighted different neurodiverse conditions and celebrated literature that promotes inclusion.
It was great to see increased attendance across The GLC for World Book day — well done!

20 Thurrock primary schools came together on 5 March 2025 for the The Rotary Club of Grays Thurrock, Thurrock Primary School Mathletics Competition hosted by The Gateway Learning Community.
The competition aimed to promote teamwork, problem-solving skills, and a love for mathematics amongst the pupils. They were encouraged to work together and support each other, showcasing not only their maths abilities but also their teamwork and communication skills.
After a day of intense competition, the results were announced:
They were awarded a trophy for their outstanding performance. All participants received certificates to recognise their hard work during the event.
Thank you to everyone who helped support this wonderful event run smoothly.
We were thrilled to see Mercury Prize winners Ezra Collective take home the award for Best Group at the 2025 Brit Awards! Their live performance was even more special as they were joined by 30 young musicians from Kinetika Bloco — an organisation some of the band members were part of as children. This added an extra layer of energy and spectacle to the show.
What an inspiring moment for our own Bloco players, showing them the incredible possibilities that lie ahead and motivating them to keep practicing and embracing every musical opportunity that comes their way!
We were thrilled to welcome Lee Elliot Major [the world's first Professor of Social Mobility] to The Gateway Learning Community yesterday. Leaders from across the GLC shared our outstanding work in this area. Lee’s reflections were affirming and his questions challenged us to refine our strategy further. In the keynote talk his thought-provoking and inspiring talk on social mobility left us all with valuable insights on how we can continue to break down barriers for our under-resourced families, enabling them to thrive and live fulfilled lives, regardless of their background.
A huge thank you to Lee for sharing his expertise and passion with us. Your words have sparked important conversations and will continue to inspire our learning community moving forward!

The Eco-Warriors from across the trust had a fantastic opportunity to participate in an interactive learning experience with Colchester Zoo during Carers Week.
The Eco-Warriors learnt about conservation and how it plays a huge part in protecting our planet. The children gained insight into endangered species and their declining numbers. By partaking in the Colchester Zoo outreach program, the children understood the value of the practices and how to contribute effectively to wildlife preservation efforts.
Monday 3rd February, marked the start of GLC Primary Careers Week, where 22 companies helped broaden our pupils’ understanding of different careers.
Professionals shared insights into their daily work, along with the paths they took to get to their current roles, including education, training, and previous jobs.
The week aimed to inspire pupils, showing them the variety of career possibilities and the steps they can take to prepare for the future. We are incredibly grateful to all the professionals who took time out of their day to make a difference and help inspire the next generation.
